Privacy Policy
Last updated: 10 April 2026
This policy explains what TheCorner.nz ("we", "us") collects when you visit the site, how we use that information, who we share it with, and the rights you have over your data. We try to handle personal information the way we'd want ours handled — the short version is: we collect very little, we don't sell anything, and we're happy to delete on request.
1. Who we are
TheCorner.nz is an independent editorial resource that reviews online pokies sites serving the Australian market. We are not a casino, we don't accept wagers, and we don't process payments. If you want to know more about what we do, start with the homepage or our disclaimer.
2. Information we collect
We collect information in two ways — automatically as you browse, and directly when you send it to us.
Automatically collected
- Log data — IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, and time spent. Standard web-server logs.
- Analytics — page views, clicks, scroll depth and outbound link clicks, collected via our analytics provider (see below).
- Cookies — small text files your browser stores; details in section 5.
Provided by you
- Contact form — if you use the contact form, we receive the name, email and message you submit.
- Email correspondence — anything you include when you email us directly.
We do not collect payment details, bank information, ID documents, or any financial data. None of that belongs on a review site.
3. How we use your information
We use collected data to:
- Serve the site and keep it working — performance, uptime, security.
- Understand which content is useful so we can improve it.
- Reply to enquiries you send us.
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam and fraudulent traffic.
- Measure the performance of affiliate links (whether a click converted, not who clicked).
4. Legal basis
Our lawful grounds for processing are our legitimate interests in operating a functional website, your consent for optional cookies, and contractual necessity for correspondence you initiate. If you're covered by the EU/UK GDPR we honour those bases explicitly; if you're in Australia or New Zealand, processing complies with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy Act 2020 (NZ).
5. Cookies and tracking
Cookies are small files that sit in your browser. We use three categories:
- Strictly necessary — session cookies and consent state. Can't be switched off without breaking the site.
- Analytics — Google Analytics or a privacy-friendly equivalent, used to measure aggregate traffic. Optional.
- Affiliate attribution — when you click a casino link, a cookie may be dropped by the destination site (not us) to track the referral. We don't control that cookie; see the casino's own policy.
You can reject optional cookies in the consent banner the first time you visit, change your preferences any time by clearing cookies for this domain, or block cookies outright in your browser settings. Doing so won't prevent you from reading the site.
6. Third-party services
The site relies on a small number of external providers. Each handles data under its own policy:
- Hosting / CDN — serves static files; receives IP and request logs.
- Analytics provider — aggregate traffic stats.
- Email provider — receives messages you send via Contact.
- Casino operators — when you click through to an external casino, that site collects its own data under its own policy. We have no visibility into what you do there.
7. Affiliate tracking
Some outbound links on the site are affiliate links. When you click one, a referral token is passed to the destination casino so it can credit us if you later register. We do not receive your name, email, bank details, deposits or winnings — the operator only tells us whether a referral converted. Details are in our disclaimer.
8. How we share data
We don't sell personal information. We don't share it with advertisers. We only share with the third-party services listed above (to the minimum extent needed to operate the site), and when legally compelled — for example, a valid court order or request from a regulator.
9. Data retention
- Server logs — up to 90 days.
- Analytics data — up to 26 months, or less if you opt out.
- Contact form and email correspondence — up to 24 months after the thread closes, unless you ask us to delete sooner.
10. Security
The site uses HTTPS end to end, stores minimal personal data, and isolates correspondence in access-controlled inboxes. No system is perfectly secure, but we design things so a breach of one component can't leak data we never collected in the first place.
11. Your rights
Regardless of where you live, you can:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you.
- Ask for a copy.
- Ask us to correct inaccurate data.
- Ask us to delete it.
- Withdraw consent for optional cookies at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority — the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner (NZ).
Email privacy@thecorner.nz or use the contact form to exercise any of these rights. We aim to respond within 30 days.
12. Children
The site and the services it reviews are for adults aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you think a minor has submitted personal data to us, tell us and we will delete it promptly.
13. International transfers
Some of the services we use (analytics, hosting, email) may process data outside Australia and New Zealand — typically in the EU or US. Where that happens, those providers commit to protections comparable to AU and NZ privacy law through standard contractual clauses or equivalent mechanisms.
14. Changes to this policy
We update this policy when the site changes, when our providers change, or when privacy law changes. The Last updated date at the top of the page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be announced on the homepage for at least 14 days.
15. Contact
Questions about this policy or about data we hold? Email privacy@thecorner.nz or reach out via the contact page. For the rules that govern your use of the site, see our Terms of Use; for limits on the information we publish, see the disclaimer.
